羅智信-對身體感知的重新召喚

「當一張床墊、一床棉被、幾件褲子、幾件衣服…這些現成物自日常生活空間抽離之後,能夠產生什麼樣的力量呢?」

羅智信處理那些物件的方式與目的很簡單, 即在於引發觀者「視覺的觸覺感受」。從單純而專注的體驗中,拖引出模糊的曖昧性與不確定性的身體感。此感受往往是純粹且具有召喚個體經驗的特性。
「使用過的物件」是這些現成物的主要特色。物件被使用過代表著物件還承載著某種時間與記憶的重量,儘管這些現成物的重量來自於藝術家與其私密關係之中,但當生活物件脫離藝術家而獨立存在時,記憶與身體感知便指向了各別觀者的經驗,既獨立又共通。
他對於材質的敏銳感知充分展現在《在床墊上》、《小孩不懂殘酷》、《藍色的或灰色的》、《female bust》等作品中,利用物件特質的對比引發觀者對於質感記憶的召喚,如:《在床墊上》與《藍色的或灰色的》中,具有流動可變化特性的牙膏對比於固定的床墊、牛仔褲,這種對比造成的是一種視覺與觸覺之間的碰撞,強化了對於身體的感知能力。而即使在《夢裡的海壓得我好重》錄像作品中,不直接操作物件,卻同樣引發了強烈的觸覺感,它存在於那單純的脫下一件件被海水浸濕牛仔褲的行為之中,並勾起某種黏膩與不舒服的內在感受。
身體感的召喚與形塑是羅智信創作的主軸,越過理性的思維邏輯,個人的身體感知總成型於感性範疇之中,透過物件的重組與拼湊試圖召喚身體感所能引發的感性能量,用感官感覺重新對現成物進行一連串新的理解與思考。

“ When a mattress、a bed quilt、some jeans and some clothes are abstracted from daily life, what power do they bring out?”
The purpose behind how Luo deals with the objects is simple. It is to invoke a sense of "visual tactility". From a pure and concentrated experience, it intrigues an ambiguous and unstable sense of body. This sensation has the unique quality of summoning individual experiences.
"The used" is the main theme for his found objects. These readymades continue to carry their own history and memories. Although the value of the readymades comes from the intimate relationship between the objects and the artist, when the objects part from the artist and exist on their own, the memories and senses of body are directed to the individual experiences of the viewers. They are simultaneously independent and common.
Luo's sensibility with materials shows in his work:《the kid doesn’t know the cruelty》、《blue or grey》and 《female bust》. He uses a contrast between each identical object or material to intrigue the viewers' memories toward the objects: From《on the mattress》and《blue or grey》, Luo uses toothpastes: viscous and unsteady, contrasts to solid objects like a mattress and a pair of jeans, vision and touch collide. Even in the video work 《the ocean in the dream struck me down》, without the manipulation from the artist, it strongly arouses the tactility of a pair of jeans that has been taken off and soaked with sea water. A sticky and uncomfortable feeling emerges.
To summon and to reconstruct the senses of the body is the main goal of Luo's work. It has surpassed our logical and rational thinking, and it has composed individuality into a category of senses. Instead, from reconstructing the sensational energy of the body, viewers gain new understandings and thoughts towards the "used" and the readymades objects.
